Music for USA Dance Chapter 6010 Tallahassee throughout its 25-year history has been and still is a collaborative effort among the volunteer DJ’s, member suggestions, other chapter playlists, paid DJ’s and bands.
Things considered…
- What’s the duration of the dance? How many songs and styles will be needed?
- Is there a themed dance that month?
- Fitting in suggested music. If music is suggested prior to the dance, it is easier to adjust the playlist accordingly prior to the night of the dance. Songs suggested at the dance, typically are played at the very next dance.
- Our audience, mainly ballroom. But we include and welcome music for all dance styles
- Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango, VW, Quick Step, Rumba, ChaCha, West Coast Swing, East Coast Swing, Samba, Bolero, Hustle, Merengue, Bachata, 2-Step, the occasional Polka, and others.
- Match the right BPM for each style of dance and mix up the tempos. And, still have the easy-to-find beat.
- Keep it fresh! Keep favorites but not over use them.
- Trim songs, less than 3 minutes.
- Consideration for the dancer purchasing a dance host card.
- Each dancer is in a 6-dance rotation; therefore, not to over “stack” the card with one dance style, it is important that songs be played according to the playlist for that dance.
Thank you for those who creates the playlist, prints, sets up, plays the songs at the dance, breaks down the equipment and repeats the process all over again for our dancing enjoyment.
